ABOUT THE AWG PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB
The Club consists of a group of amateur photographers who enjoy learning from each other and sharing field trips together to explore the beauty of Oman. We work on the concept that one becomes a better photographer by learning from peers. We host meetings and guest speaker events, run field trips timed to maximize the potential for beautiful photos, and hold social critiquing sessions aimed at improving your skills in a friendly, relaxed environment. The Club’s season runs from September through to May. There is no limit to the number of members The Club shall register. Annual membership fee is 5 OMR per person, and a nominal Field Trip Fee of 1 OMR will be charged each time members venture out on a trip.
HISTORY OF THE CLUB
The Club was the brainchild of Angela Osborne back in the autumn of 2007. Interested in photography, but unable to find an existing photography club, Angela and a friend started one under the banner of the AWG. The Club was originally named “About Photography” and started with five members! Since that beginning, The Club has flourished with motivated and enthusiastic input from Angela and subsequently other AWG members – namely Sunaina Ahluwalia, Nancy Sim and Kelly Gilreath.
A word from Kelly Gilreath, 2010/2011 Club Facilitator:
“I have been in the middle east for a decade now and count myself lucky to have been part of an international women's organization in each country I have lived. Another blessing has been the ability to photograph freely the vast palate of culture and colors we live amongst. Our Photography Club strives to trace Oman's historical and cultural roots alongside it's natural beauty. The Club is a wonderful mix of nationalities and personalities, growing and learning from one another. This past year our club had 50 active members. Each year The Club produces a charity calendar which highlights the best images of Oman and also is a charitable endeavor for the AWG.”
WHAT IS PLANNED FOR THIS SEASON
The running of The Club and the planning of field trips is being undertaken by a new collective of AWG members. The challenge this season is to carry on the fabulous work of predecessors, asthis Club is something of which the AWG can be very proud!
Introducing the “Ladies of the Lens” facilitators:
The first meeting for the season was a “Meet & Greet” on the 18th October.
Thank you to all Photography Club members for attending the “Meet and Greet” in MQ. It was a great event attended by 27 members. We were entertained by guest speaker, Angela Osborne, founder of the AWG Photography Club who shared her amazing experiences being involved with the Club and members over the years. Angela also provided some tips and tricks and some dos and don’t when taking photos in Oman. We all took full advantage of meeting other members, sharing a cuppa and buying Charity Calendars packed with prior year Photography Club member’s work plus helping to support charities in this beautiful country!

Participation will be on a “first come, first served” basis. Trips have been carefully planned to make the most of the particular month of the year.
The variety of photographic shoots include, but are not limited to – forts, souqs, wadis, mountains, beaches, sunrises/sunsets, flora and fauna, black & white, action and sports!
We will host an end of calendar year Holiday Social, plus continue the two very popular end of season events – the Photographic Exhibition and Party – all chances to display your photographs.
A new inclusion will be “Critiquing Sessions”, where members can gather after field trips to look at photographs and throw in each other’s “two baizas worth”! These will be social and non-confronting events which will hopefully advance each other’s photographic skills.
The Club will regularly keep members informed of events via email. For more information, please click here.
